1900

Liberty National Life Insurance Company is incorporated in Huntsville, Alabama on August 31, laying one of the earliest foundations of what would later become the Globe Life family of companies.

1951

American Income Insurance Company is founded with $25,000 of borrowed capital by Harold Goodman and Bernard Rapoport in Indianapolis, Indiana—built to serve hardworking, working-class families.

1954

Due to rapid growth—over 6,000 policy applications per month—Goodman and Rapoport create American Income Life Insurance Company (AIL) as a stock company.

1958

AIL’s executive offices relocate from Indianapolis to Waco, Texas, establishing the company’s long-term headquarters.

1961

AIL begins serving labor unions nationwide, introducing industry-leading innovations including premium waivers during authorized strikes and scholarship programs for union families.

1973

AIL reaches $31.5 million in income and is designated an official Union Label company by the AFL-CIO—one of only two insurance companies in the nation with this distinction.

1986

Bernard and Audre Rapoport launch the Rapoport Foundation, reinforcing the company’s legacy of philanthropy and community support.

1994

American Income Life is acquired by Torchmark Corporation for $563 million, strengthening its national reach and operational capacity.

2000

AIL creates National Income Life Insurance Company (NILICO) to serve New York state, expanding Globe Life’s footprint.

2003

Roger Smith is named CEO and President of AIL, leading the company through major expansion.

2011-2012

Bernard Rapoport receives the AFP Lifetime Achievement Award for philanthropy and passes away in 2012 at the age of 94.
Together, AIL and NILICO exceed $41.3 billion of life insurance in force.

Globe Life launches Closer to the Heart, a corporate initiative supporting local communities.

2018

Steve Greer becomes CEO of AIL and David Zophin is promoted to President—both longstanding leaders within the company.

2019

Torchmark Corporation officially rebrands to Globe Life Inc. and changes its NYSE ticker to GL, consolidating all divisions under the unified Globe Life brand.

2020

Globe Life transitions many operations into a modern virtual model, expanding its national reach and streamlining recruitment and onboarding.

2023

American Income Life officially becomes the Globe Life: American Income Life Division, aligning fully with Globe Life’s master brand.

2024

Launch of Omid Organization.

Romal Omid becomes a State General Agent (SGA) Owner, officially creating the Omid Organization, a new leadership team inside Globe Life.
